is a city located in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. As of February 2014, the city had an estimated population of 93,559 and a population density of 214 persons per km². The total area was 437.55  km². The city is famous for the sakura that bloom in Tenshochi Park, which is regarded as one of the hundred best places in Japan to view cherry blossoms.
==Geography==
Kitakami is located in south-central Iwate Prefecture, in the Kitakami River valley.
